The Karapitiya National Hospital has initiated fumigation operations following a dengue outbreak that has affected approximately 70 staff members, including doctors, nurses, and junior staff.

Dr. S.D.U.M. Ranga, the hospital’s director, confirmed that since last month, 70 staff members have contracted dengue.

In response to this alarming situation, the hospital has launched a campaign to eliminate mosquito breeding sites within the premises.

The Galle District has reported 162 suspected dengue cases in the past three weeks, marking a significant increase compared to the same period last year.

The Galle MOH Division reported 26 suspected cases, while the Bope Poddala and Akmeemana Divisions reported 20 and 17 suspected cases, respectively.
