The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has issued a warning about an ongoing scam where fraudsters, posing as representatives of telephone companies, are deceiving people into paying money under the pretense of winning prizes.
Director Menaka Pathirana of TRCSL explained that these scammers contact individuals via text messages or phone calls, informing them that they have won a prize. The victims are then asked to pay taxes or fees to claim their winnings.
TRCSL urges the public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to such scams. They advise verifying the authenticity of any prize claims and not to make any payments based on unsolicited messages or calls.
