Mastercard Country Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives, Sandun Hapugoda, emphasized the critical role of digital transformation for micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs) in Sri Lanka, which make up 19% of the country’s establishments.
Speaking at the launch event of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2024, organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Hapugoda underlined the importance of leveraging digital systems to boost efficiency and enable local businesses to access global markets.
“Digital systems help businesses expand beyond local markets, creating broader opportunities,” Hapugoda said, advocating for collaboration between the public and private sectors to provide the necessary tools, training, and resources for MSMEs.
He further noted that empowering SMEs and MSMEs through digital initiatives is essential for fostering a resilient and inclusive economy in Sri Lanka.
