The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has expressed optimism following the appointment of Anura Kumara Dissanayake as the 9th Executive President of Sri Lanka, elected on September 21, 2024.
The BASL congratulated the President and extended their best wishes as he assumes his new responsibilities. They emphasized their belief that Dissanayake will honor his pledges to uphold the rule of law and independence of the judiciary, while ushering in a new era of good governance.
The association highlighted the need to address the culture of impunity and underscored their hope that the President will work towards establishing a unified Sri Lanka, promoting equality among all citizens, regardless of ethnicity, race, or religion.
