Right to Life Human Rights Centre, in collaboration with RDPO Sri Lanka and with the support of Misereor, successfully conducted a Human Rights Defenders Training program in Batticaloa. The training, aimed at empowering local human rights defenders, was a significant step toward building a robust foundation for the protection and promotion of human rights in the region.

The event commenced with a vibrant celebration of Pongal, embracing the cultural heritage of the community. This celebration not only set a positive tone for the program but also fostered a sense of unity and inclusiveness among the participants.

The training covered key topics essential for effective human rights advocacy, including the history of human rights, affidavit and written complaint drafting skills, and the mechanisms of independent commissions. These sessions were designed to equip participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to address human rights violations in their communities effectively.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of Right to Life Human Rights Centre and RDPO Sri Lanka to enhance the capacities of grassroots human rights defenders, ensuring they are better prepared to contribute to justice and accountability initiatives across the country.
