The National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) has announced plans to consolidate over 50 ICT-related government institutions under a single umbrella to enhance efficiency and eliminate redundancy. Speaking at the launch event of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2024 at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce yesterday, NEDA Director Dhanuka Liyanagamage highlighted the challenges within the sector.
“In certain cases, these institutions, intentionally or unintentionally, operate as rival organizations,” Liyanagamage noted, stressing the urgent need for better coordination.
Harsha Purasinghe, Chairman and CEO of Microimage, revealed that steps are underway to establish a new Digital Economy Authority to oversee this initiative. He also confirmed that the inaugural board meeting of the proposed authority was held last week, marking a significant milestone towards restructuring the ICT landscape in Sri Lanka.
